What You’re In For
Midori’s Expert Guide to Sensual Bondage is a 1 hour and 36 minute movie that opens with a introduction/informational talk starring Midori in which she shares the basic rules, guidelines, safety tips and options for restraining your partner. This talk lasts about 11 minutes.
Then you move into the bedroom with the 1st couple Adrianna and Mark. Midori schools them in:
- Using bungee cords for anchor points if you don’t have an underbed restraint system.
- Using long scarves found around the house to tie wrists, holding hands together.
- How to tie hands to ankles with scarves and the different positions the restrained partner can get into from there.
- How to tie a scarf around the thigh then up and around the back of the neck to the other thigh. Then you can tie your partner’s wrists together and the scarves hold the legs open with hands above the person’s head.
- A tie that goes around the ankles, so you can restrain your partner’s legs above her head to headboard or stretched out to leg of bed.
Then we move on to what they refer to as the Ready-Made Restraints and you’ll learn:
- How to use ready-made wrist and ankle restraints.
- Different positions you can get into with different ankle and wrist combinations with snap-links.
- How to incorporate a ready-made underbed restraint system, instead of bungee cords.
These demonstrations last about 14 minutes and then Midori leaves Adrianna and Mark to get their sex on. This scene concentrates on restraining that can be done on a bed, floor, couch, chair, etc. They start out with the standard spread eagle, in which Adrianna is laying on her back bound with arms and legs out…think like you were going to make a snow angel. At one point the restraints feel a little loose so they show how you can make the underbed system hold/pull tighter.
You’ll get different ideas of oral sex positions (man to woman/woman to man) with the different restraining positions and different intercourse positions too. Not only are you learning how to tie your Sweetie up, but you can see what fun and exciting options you have to continue play.
Mark also ties Adrianna up with a variety of leather belts that men would have around the house. He gets her in the ass up, face down position which is very sexy and handy. We learn that this position helps to open the woman up nicely and receive deeper penetration.
They also bring out the big guns and use a sex sling. It’s not really step-by-step instructions on getting her into it because it’s during their sex scene, but you do see enough to get an idea of what’s involved and what’s possible in using one.
Not only do you see the different types of restraint devices, ways to restrain your lover, ways that you can have sex once restrained, but you also see Mark and Adrianna communicate during the restraining process. He asks her simple questions like, “Is that okay?” She says, “Yes.” And then he checks in one more time before finishing with, “Are you sure?” And she confirms that all is good. So at this point, you can see that it’s not hours of communicating, but simple questions just to make sure that all is going well. You also see Adrianna say, “Okay” when a restraint is pulled tight enough.
Once Adrianna is tied up, she has limited ability to move around and change positions, so at certain points you see how to carefully and securely move your partner around when totally bound.
Adrianna also demonstrates a few positions of being bound without any restraints at all. They’re quick, but if you pay attention, you’ll see them. Mark and Adrianna get it on, if my math is correct, for about 30 minutes.
The next couple…
Madison and Danny receive no instruction from Midori, their scene just starts off feeling like a couple just getting home from work or something like that and getting all flirty and sexy with each other.
Their sexin’ kicks in with Madison getting restrained with a ready-made over-the-door restraint system, so you get to see some options when being restrained while standing and what’s possible there as far as oral, manual pleasure and intercourse. Madison is also quite good at showing positions of being bound with no restraints which I think is handy for those new to this kind of play. You’re restraining yourself, but can easily get out if you need to.
They mix it up about 18 minutes into their scene and switch roles, so Madison ties up Danny on the bed. First she tries to use a blindfold, but he can still kind of see so she uses a necktie and covers the necktie with the blindfold and you get to see their simple, direct and playful communication. Then she ties his wrists with a necktie over his head. Once totally bound, she gives him serious oral pleasure and rides him hard.
At one point, she uses what looks to me like a soft ready-made ankle or wrist restraint with a leash around his cock. There’s no additional instruction with this, but you can see how she’s handling things very gracefully as to not hurt him. It’s a clever use of a restraint around the cock for a blowjob.
You get to see them removing restraints and how the atmosphere can remain sexy and fun for the couple. Then Danny restrains Madison again with ready-made wrist and ankle restraints using the underbed system. And he bangs her good!
Later on, Madison uses the Midori Scarf Harness to hold the Hitachi Magic Wand in place while Danny fucks her from behind. It’s a clever use of scarves, but there’s no instruction here, instruction on how to make that is elsewhere on the DVD. Madison and Danny’s scene lasts a hot and steamy 35 minutes.
Favorite Sex Scene
I loved Madison and Danny’s scene; there was just so much chemistry between them. Even though it was clear they were playing the role of a couple, nothing they did felt fake or put on, or over the top. Danny was a good Dom, took control when it was his turn, but he was also fun and playful which I think is important on a beginner DVD like this. It’s a common misunderstanding that bondage has to be this dark, eerie and serious act. Madison and Danny do a lot of giggling and laughing and they’re just so playful. Hubby and I have the same attitude during sex which is probably why I enjoyed this scene most.
Also, this scene felt more like what a real couple would do if they started incorporating bondage and restraints into their sex life. The first scene with Adrianna and Mark is good to see for more advanced ties and uses of ready-made items and while their scene was sexy, it lacked the genuine chemistry I felt between Madison and Danny and chemistry is really, really important to me. Also, Mark is a hardcore Dom that takes no shit. He was more subdued in this flick, but still, I really enjoyed the playfulness that Madison and Danny had.
Rough Sex
Both couples not only engaged in sex while restrained, but there’s also some rougher sex added into the mix. Grabbing throats, pulling hair, a bit of choking, face fucking…while these things can all be great additions to sex; they are NOT explained in this DVD. Yay Moment
Danny’s got Madison all tied up and starts to bang her and even though her wrists are bound together, she’s still able to grab her Hitachi Magic Wand and hold on her on her clit while Danny fucks her. The Biggest Shame
When the movie opens up for the initial talk by Midori, her accent and way of speaking turned me off. It felt fake, overdone and pretentious. This was surprising to me because most of the Vivid Ed DVDs that I’ve been exposed to have a younger, hip feel to them. Midori seemed old and stuffy and this disappointed me because I didn’t think it would be a good idea to recommend this to a younger crowd, because it felt, well kind of old.
After I got through the whole movie, I toke a peek at the special features and there’s a Behind the Scenes. I learn watching that the falseness that I felt was actually put on. When you see Midori talking about her workshops and classes, she becomes more relaxed, more fun, more hip and more likable. I couldn’t help but to blurt out to Hubby, “Why wasn’t she this way in the movie?!”
Up until she leaves, the movie has a mature and stuffy feeling to it. Granted the information is valuable and necessary for any couple that wants to tie each other up, but it wasn’t as enjoyable as it could’ve been if she had just been herself.
Is the information easy to learn?
Yes. But one viewing will not make you a pro. I had to rewind the DVD a few times to make sure I understood what they were telling me to do for some of the ties. And this is the kind of thing that you need to practice before you have sex. Know exactly what you’re doing before it really counts or you’ll wind up having some difficulties when you should be having fun. Also, you learn in the video that the act of tying up and restraining your partner can be a ritualistic thing. It’s part of the fun, the hotness and not something that should be rushed.
Voice-over
Midori gives you some more information via voice-over during both sex scenes. I recommend this at least the first time watching it, and then when you watch it again, you can choose not to have the voice-over on. However, this isn’t something you can do via remote. The non-voice-over scenes are in the Special Features/Bonus Scenes.
Holy Distraction
While I was so turned on by Madison and Danny’s scene, I was absolutely perplexed as to why they didn’t clean Madison’s heels. She’s wearing some really cute open toe black heels that found their way front and center while she’s riding Danny. Holy Cow! She’s got a ton of fuzz and lint stuck to her itty bitty heels and the camera was right there. It couldn’t be ignored and I keep thinking, why didn’t they stop to clean that off? Messed up, old, linty heels right in the frame of banging genitals takes the sexy away. Luckily that part of the scene didn’t last too long, but long enough for me to bitch a little.
Shrimpin’
Adrianna is in the face down, ass up position and Mark starts plowing her and with Mark’s foot not too far from her face, she starts sucking on his big toe. Wow! I wouldn’t have done it, but she seemed to enjoy doing it, so go Adrianna.
Worthy Extras
You get some Behind the Scenes Footage in which you learn more about Midori and her offerings. Most importantly, you learn that she’s not a total stuffed shirt. There’s also a Bonus Scene that instructs you step-by-step how to create the Midori Scarf Harness for the Hitachi Magic Wand. Looks like you’re creating a two-strap harness with long scarves. It’s very clever and very handy because it makes the Hitachi Magic Wand hand-less. It’ll buzz against you and all your holes will be free for penetration. Great for intercourse and even masturbation, however, you do need someone to tie you in it. Lastly, you get Tristan’s Safe Sex Bonus Scene that explains and demonstrates how to use different kinds of barriers for safe sex.
Overall Thoughts
Midori’s Expert Guide to Sensual Bondage is a good video for couples that are new to any kind of bondage and are looking to spice up their sex life. It has solid information on how to restrain your partner with a variety of items that you probably already have at home or can very easily obtain. Plus, you get exposure to and learn how to use ready-made restraint items. You’re told what types of materials to look for and what to avoid. You get simple instruction on the tying of using different restraints and you get to see what fun is in store after your partner is restrained. There are some scenarios and moments where you can see how to get things undone or done up while keeping things sexy, hot and/or playful.
Besides Midori’s talk in the beginning and her working with Adrianna and Mark before their official scene, there are additional voice-over instructions during the scenes that you have the option of using or not.
Issues of safety are explained and shown, which is the most important thing when engaging in this type of play. The same instructions given before the sex scenes are used in the scenes so there’s consistency in the message of the video.
As far as communicating about desires and fantasies that’s highlighted on the back cover, I didn’t feel that was really explored. That could be a whole DVD in itself it’s such a complicated topic. Midori points out that you need to communicate desires, but doesn’t really tell you how to do that or how to hear it or how to respond to it nor does she illustrate it. The communication you see is during the sex scenes and while being restrained and unrestrained. Those are really important and I’m glad those things are in place here, but the flick does not tell you in an “Expert Guide” how to communicate about your desires and fantasies to your partner. But hopefully, if you and your Sweetie are watching this DVD, you’ve gotten past that point and the communication on the DVD is what you need to learn.
Both scenes were sexy; however, I found the 2nd scene with Madison and Danny to be the hottest. For a beginner DVD, it felt like they were the closest to a real couple as compared to porn stars and there was so much more chemistry between them. Also, because most people think of BDSM as this dark, eerie, serious thing; I was so glad to see Madison and Danny show that it can still be hot and sexy, even when both partners are being playful and are not afraid to laugh and giggle.
If you’re interested in the many different restraining devices available, both scenes will round out your knowledge, but in my opinion, the first scene offers more of a variety and more elaborate restraining and sex while restrained.
I love Midori’s vibrator harness made out of scarves. It’s a very clever way to incorporate the Hitachi Magic Wand into intercourse without having to hold on to it.
The only shame, well 2 things, was Midori’s pretentious attitude in the beginning and linty, dirty heels that got front and center in the shot when Madison was banging Danny.
If you’re new to any kind of bondage or restraining your partner, a video like this is great to watch. Don’t watch it alone, watch it with your partner because it gives you both the opportunity to comment and discuss the things that look fun, hot, sexy, what looks crazy, scary, awful in an environment that’s safe and non-sexual for the both of you. You can play along and try the ties that they’re doing while you both still have your clothes on…or most of your clothes. This isn’t the video you watch to get it on. This is the video you watch to learn how to do this, what your options are, to practice with before the big encounter, to comment on, laugh at, gasp at and just be exposed to what’s possible and figure out if you’re interested in giving it go. Then you can go back and watch the scenes without voice-over or watch another porn entirely to get it on for realsies.
So this is an instructional/how-to video and the main point of it all is do you learn anything and are the ties easy to do? Yep, you do learn a lot about restraining your partner and beyond, but all in all, this video is really meant for couples with little to no experience in this realm of sex. If you’re a pro at this, you probably won’t find anything new and exciting. And the ties, that’s really what it’s about, learning some ties to start the process. Yep, the ties are pretty easy to learn, you’ll have to practice and probably rewind to get it right, but restraining your partner is not something you want to rush through, as you’ll learn in this video it’s all part of the delicious process of having them.
